About Alice
I have loved lettering for as long as I can remember. I can recall a handwriting lesson at primary school and some of the exercises we were taught. My parents gave me a calligraphy set while I was at Primary school and I used to write whenever I could. I can remember asking if I could write the family Christmas Cards and using everyone’s full names for maximum writing opportunity! I love looking at all lettering, typography, signage and fonts, along with handwriting. I enjoy delivering workshops in modern calligraphy - using a dip pen and also using a brush. Recently I have been really loving using a brush to create larger scale lettering pieces and designs.
My interest in botanical illustration has evolved from my previous career as a Forest School Leader and from spending time in the woods and observing flora through the seasons. Drawing species from life enables me to really see them, to study the structure and colours. I enjoy the idea of working to scale and painting in a way that captures the species in a fluid, modern way - working in ink and watercolour.
